Background in Triathlon:
Hey there!  I've been a triathlete since 1992.  While at UC Davis, I began running competitively, but quickly got bored, so I jumped into a "Grassroots" triathlon ran out of someone's garage (literally ran from their dock, along their side yard to the garage where "Transition" was).  I was immediately hooked and haven't really considered myself anything other than a Triathlete since.  Living in Northern California, the racing was great:  Escape from Alcatraz, Wildflower Triathlon Festival...these events became yearly experiences while living in SF through and after Dental School at UOP.
I moved to Arizona in 2000, and took some time away from the sport to settle in.  In 2009 I decided I was missing the sport too much, and entered IMAZ for 2010 (my first IM).  In May of 2010, I shattered my right collarbone, and thought I was done before I had started...BUT, surgery with Dr Sahasrabudhe + 3 months of rehab with Nate and Brandon at Endurance Rehab had me back training.  My coach, Chris Hauth (AIMP Coaching) wrote what we later called a "Genius" Plan, and had me crossing the finish line at IMAZ with a 9:28, and on my way to Kona.   Literally overnight, I went from "One and Done" to signing up for Kona and IMAZ 2011 (an expensive day for sure).
After 5 Ironmans in 2 years, Jenny and I decided that taking at least 2013 off from triathlon was the best move considering a much needed career path change.  2014 looks to serve as the next chapter for Triathlon in my life. My focus will be Olympic Distance, ramping into 70.3 towards the late summer and fall.  From there....who knows, but I always make sure the decisions I make come from home.  This is a hobby afterall, and Jenny, Sophia (5), and Andrew (2) are the precious cargo on this journey in Triathlon ;-)

Best Advice:
Avoid the "deadly middle."  Chris has beat this into my head over the 2 years he has been coaching me, and I am the worst at following it.  It simply means that on slow days, go slower, and on fast days, go faster.  If you are in the "deadly middle,"  you are compromising the recovery/training effect needed on slower days, and the "top end" needed on interval days...
