Jenni Marshall

Bio:  My start in triathlon is thanks to swimming.  I was on swim team in high school and always though it was the best exercise.  In 2008, I was inspired by the swimming events in the Summer Olympics to get back into the pool and joined the Master’s swim team at Lifetime Fitness.  The team was coached by Frank Sole and was primarily made up of triathletes.  Under their encouragement, I bought a bike and entered Nathan’s Sprint triathlon in September 2009.  I loved every segment of the race and was actually sad as each leg ended.

When I heard that a new triathlon club was starting, I felt that this was something I wanted to be a part of.  I was new to the sport and thought it would be a great way to learn.  Of course, I’ve gotten so much more out of being part of the One family.  I’ve found great friends, fun training partners and teammates with whom I love competing!

Last year was my first attempt at long course racing.  I competed in Deuceman half Ironman distance in Show Low, AZ and in Ironman AZ.   I’m looking forward this year into doing more half Iron distance events as well as Olympic distance events.  My goal this year is to chase PRs!

Home sweet home: Solon, OH

Why do you do triathlon? I do triathlon to be active and a good role model for my children.  Also,  after becoming a mother, I quit my job and was missing something to fuel my competitive drive.  When I discovered triathlon, it gave me a fun, competitive environment.  I feel like a kid again.

What are your top 5 race results? Nathan’s Sprint Tri 2009 ( 2nd AG in 1st triathlon) Chicago Marathon 2010 (1st marathon and qualified for Boston); Boston Marathon 2011 (PR); Rio Salado Olympic (2nd AG in first Olympic) Deuceman 70.3 2013 (1st AG in first 70.3)
What’s your favorite race and why? My favorite race has been Ironman Arizona because of all the love and support on the course from friends, family and teammates.  It also was a very good learning experience in that your strengths weaknesses all become very apparent.  You can't fake your way through a race that long.

What’s your favorite workout?   Lately, I’ve been really enjoying trail running.  I love how you have to be in the moment and focused.

How do you celebrate after a big race? Cheeseburger and red wine.

What' s a hobby of yours besides triathlon?  Chasing my 7 year old daughter, Reese and 5 1/2 year old son, Adam.

What is your ultimate triathlon goal? Compete at 70.3 World Championship
